Youth Voice, Founded on October 16, 2008, is a drop-in leadership program held at the Mid City Police Station weekly. Law enforcement, university interns from Alliant International University, Point Loma Nazarene University and San Diego State University, along with community-based organizations partner with the goal of providing youth, ages 11 to 24, meaningful support and opportunities to positively impact their leadership development. We focus on Connection to Self, Connection to Others, Connection to Community, and Connection to Law Enforcement.

The voluntary mentoring program is supported by Mid-City Division's Juvenile Services Team and connects youth to themselves, their homes, schools, and communities through trauma informed - resilience building curriculum development on multiple intelligence, mindfulness, advocacy, character education, service learning projects, community service opportunities, and personal development of their critical thinking skills through projects based learning.

Youth Voice has multiple strategies of engagement, including drop-in, structured trauma informed curriculum, Youth Voice Ensemble, Resident Leadership Academy, and/or Train the Trainer model focused on their Calls to Action with Asks on solutions before policy and decision makers. Youth Voice is developing a Train the Trainer hub for virtual classrooms of learning and engagement with inner city youth teaching peers locally, regionally, statewide and ultimately, globally.
